The Miami-Dade County Board of Commissioners has once again postponed a decision on the future location of a proposed waste incinerator. Instead of selecting a site, commissioners agreed to revisit the issue on July 16, 2025, after receiving a comprehensive report exploring all available options for managing solid waste.

The incinerator discussion, which has been ongoing for two years, was initially expected to conclude at the February 19 meeting following a workshop held on January 28. However, commissioners deferred item 11A6, which proposed excluding Doral, Medley, and NW 58th Street as potential locations, and instead directed the administration to prepare a detailed report analyzing alternatives, including landfilling and waste-to-energy technologies.

The report, due within 120 days, will examine financial, environmental, and logistical considerations related to Miami-Dade’s waste management system. Commissioners emphasized the need for a thorough analysis to make an informed decision. The issue is set to be discussed again on July 16, 2025, at which point a final decision on waste management options is anticipated.
